We are located in the Children’s Speech Intelligibility Research and Education (CSPIRE) Laboratory in the Faculty of Rehabilitation at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta.

CSPIRE’s mission is to:

  • Develop and evaluate measures of young children's speech intelligibility (that is, how well a child’s speech can be understood by listeners)
  • Understand the perceptual-acoustic bases of intelligible and unintelligible children's speech
  • Develop and evaluate innovative treatment programs to increase speech intelligibility in children with motor speech disorders
  • Translate this knowledge to practice
